At the turn of the 15th century, Kazimierz - an independent town at that time - became the centre of two cultures: Christian and Jewish. Many heritage buildings (especially sacral architecture) that bear testimony to the magnificence of the two cultures can be admired to this day. The Jewish Heritage Route begins with the very active Centre for Jewish Culture (in ul. Meiselsa). From here, we proceed to the Synagogues. The Tempel Synagogue (ul. Miodowa) was built early in the latter half of the 19th century for the Society of Progressive Jews. Having passed by the 17th-century Kupa Synagogue (in ul. Warszauera), we reach Isaac Synagogue (in ul. Jakuba) built in the years 1638-1644. Towering over ul. Józefa is the Wysoka (High) Synagogue, built towards in the latter half of the 16th century.
